Quilting needle!

One day my grandpa was walking across the floor and something pricked him.  He yelled at his wife, Iva, one of your quilting needles just got me.  When he turned on the light, it wasn't her sewing needle but a scorpion!

Picture of the Mantles with canes, gifts from the St. Louis World Fair

Above:  my great grandpa, standing far left,
I just bought a book about the Saint Louis Fair.  I wonder if it lists the canes.  Put the year here:____.

David Mantle was a teacher, justice of the peace

My ancestor, David Mantle was a teacher and a justice of the Peace.  They called him Squire.

Some researchers list him as James David Mantle.  His English Birth Certificate and American Death Certificate and tombstone list him as David Mantle.

When they immigrated from England on the Sailor Prince, according to family lore, he was young and at one point went missing and was later found climbing the sails.
David is the father seated in the above picture.  The canes were bought at the Saint Louis Fair.

Maria Scriven Mantle, midwife and devout LDS member

in Linn, Missouri, she was a midwife.
I have seen letters where she wrote her grandson, concerned about him staying true to the Mormon religion.

7 year old David Mantle on the ship Sailor Prince, missing!

1848 the Mantles sailed from Liverpool, England to New oRLEANS, lOUISIANA.
at 1 point on their 2 month journey they couldn't find 7 year old David Mantle, my direct ancestor.
Wen they finally found him he was climbing te sails!

Mickey Mantle, nothing will ever come of him!

Mickey is a 4th cousin to me, I believe.
I like the story my mom tells, that her mom told:
One of Mickey's aunts said nothing will ever come of him, all he likes to do is play baseball.
His dad and grandpa were left and right handed so he learned to hit from both!

Mickey became a famous baseball player.
His aunt didn't.
