David Mantle was a teacher, justice of the peace
My ancestor, David Mantle was a teacher and a justice of the Peace. They called him Squire.
Some researchers list him as James David Mantle. His English Birth Certificate and American Death Certificate and tombstone list him as David Mantle.
When they immigrated from England on the Sailor Prince, according to family lore, he was young and at one point went missing and was later found climbing the sails.
David is the father seated in the above picture. The canes were bought at the Saint Louis Fair.

Maria Scriven Mantle, midwife and devout LDS member
in Linn, Missouri, she was a midwife.
I have seen letters where she wrote her grandson, concerned about him staying true to the Mormon religion.

Mickey Mantle, nothing will ever come of him!
Mickey is a 4th cousin to me, I believe.
I like the story my mom tells, that her mom told:
One of Mickey's aunts said nothing will ever come of him, all he likes to do is play baseball.
His dad and grandpa were left and right handed so he learned to hit from both!
Mickey became a famous baseball player.
His aunt didn't.

Arch Buchanan Hill and Iva Fay Mantle
Before my grandparents were married, my mom says they were searching people because someone had been hurt. Arch had a knife and he asked Iva to stow it in her boot, which she did. They didn't search her boot. This was before they were married. Propriety wouldn't allow them to search a lady.
Iva was the new school teacher in town. Arch's father was on the school board so he sent Arch to pick her up. She was older than Arch by a couple of years. Grandma didn't give them notice after she got married, she just quit. School teachers weren't allowed to be married.
